"Earl is exhibiting a number of “expressionist and organic” paintings from the past year, which all have strong emphasis on Taranaki Maunga and the sea, while Reilly is exhibiting three paintings that look at Rawhiti St in Vogeltown and resemble postage stamps."

Judges Comment, Bill Millbank - This award is expectedly loaded with views of Mt Taranaki and yet so few become memorable, this is an exception. A Wonderful painterly quality, the mountain half hidden, has a strong explosiveness, it becomes atmospheric. The title further indicates its existence as a volcano, combustible and wonderful.
